Handing over access that changes often, without cutting ever more keys
The town has a lot of rented housing: young professionals working in Bordeaux, students from the nearby campus, short stays close to the station. With every change you have to collect keys, cut new ones, and sometimes discover that a copy is missing. A connected device lets you open up an access right and then close it again remotely, for an inventory, a tradesperson's visit or a cleaning session. Models that fit onto the existing cylinder, on the inside face, have the advantage of remaining reversible at the end of the tenancy.
Business premises housed in the former workshops and around the Bègles digital hub raise a variant of the same problem: several occupants, staggered hours, contractors coming and going. A time-stamped access log has real value here, provided the people concerned are clearly informed, since this is personal data. Be careful, though, not to confuse two different subjects: a motor fitted to an ordinary lock improves how conveniently access is managed, but does nothing whatsoever for the strength of the door.
What electronics will not fix on a Bègles door
The point most often overlooked is the building itself. On a solid timber échoppe door that swells with the damp, a motor has to strain to turn the cylinder: the batteries run down far faster than advertised, and the mechanism eventually gives up in the middle of winter. The logical order is therefore the opposite of the one people imagine: adjust the door, the strike plate and the alignment first, then motorise. A leaf that closes without effort is the condition for a connected model to work at all.
The second point concerns blocks of flats: the entrance hall of a Terres Neuves or riverside block is operated by a badge or a system managed by the syndic. Fitting out your own flat entrance door changes nothing about that access, and you will still have to carry the communal badge. Finally, if your key is part of a building master key system, replacing the cylinder with an electronic model can break that arrangement. Checking with the syndic or the landlord comes before the purchase, not after the delivery.
