In a detached house, the front door is rarely the only way in
In a commune where the house with a garden is still the rule, the first thing to do, even before calling, is to walk right round the plot. Many houses on the Villenave estates have a service door by the kitchen or utility room, a direct connection between the garage and the house, and sometimes a living-room patio door left ajar because the garden is enclosed. It is not unusual for a family stuck outside their front door to find a way in round the back before we have even set off.
Along the roads served by the tram, the setting changes: recent apartment developments, entrance halls with access control, flat entrance doors fitted with multipoint mechanisms. A door pulled shut behind you is no longer necessarily a simple case of being locked out, because a top or bottom locking point may have engaged. You also need to be able to reach the upper floors, which means getting hold of a neighbour or the caretaker. We will ask you to show that you do live in the property, and any work touching a communal area requires the agreement of the building managing agent (syndic) or the landlord.
Finding the house: cul-de-sacs, private lanes and closed gates
Villenave-d'Ornon is a large commune, and the way it grew estate by estate has produced any number of cul-de-sacs, private lanes and house numbers with a bis or ter suffix that look much alike from one area to the next. When you call, give the name of the street but also a landmark visible from the road: the colour of the gate, a shop on the corner, a bus stop. Tell us as well whether the gate is closed, whether it is motorised, and where we should come in. We set out from Bordeaux and work throughout the Gironde.
The motorised gate deserves a mention of its own, because it sometimes shuts you out more effectively than the door does: the remote control left indoors, a power cut, a flat back-up battery. Most gate motors have a manual release operated by a key, but that key needs not to be sitting inside the house. Tell us on the phone what you have to hand. Before anything is done, we check that you live in the property, present a detailed quote, and issue an invoice afterwards.
How does this service work?
